History
Comark began operations in Canada in 1976, under the private ownership of the Brenninkmeyer family. Rickis, Cleo and Bootlegger came under the Comark umbrella in the early 80's, with the 1979 purchase of 58 Irene Hill stores, renamed Cleo, in 1994. Bootlegger followed in 1980, bringing 47 stores located in Western Canada to the company. Two years later in 1982, 74 Ricki's stores joined the family business. Today, the business has grown to over 300 stores.

After nearly 30 years in operation, the business was acquired in February 2005 by an investment fund managed by KarpReilly, LLC of Greenwich, CT. Comark was subsequently acquired By Stern Partners Inc. in August of 2015. Jean Machine was acquired by Stern Partners Inc in March of 2017. Comark’s retail banners now carry on business as separate affiliates of Stern Partners.
