Each of Comark’s three divisions is supported by centralized systems and corporate support functions (finance, real estate, human resources, and logistics) based out of our corporate office in Mississauga, ON. The company also operates a central distribution centre in Laval, QC. Divisional operating offices are located in Richmond, BC and Winnipeg, MB.
Comark began operations in Canada in 1976, under the private ownership of the Brenninkmeyer family. After nearly 30 years in operation, the business was acquired in February 2005 by an investment fund managed by KarpReilly, LLC of Greenwich, CT.
All three divisions came under the Comark umbrella by the early 80's, with the first purchase taking place in 1979 of 58 Irene Hill stores, which later changed its name to cleo in 1994. Bootlegger followed in 1980, bringing 47 stores located in Western Canada to the company. Two years later in 1982, 74 Ricki's stores joined the family business.
Today, all three divisions are represented across Canada, and the business has grown to over 300 stores – currently 142 Ricki’s, 91 Bootlegger and 85 cleo locations.
